Course Rights, Resilience and the Climate Crisis

This course will serve as an introduction to the legal framework surrounding the changes in climate and increase in climate related disasters. From a Human Rights perspective, we will explore the Rights and laws that apply when faced with climate crisis issues and their relation to disaster risk reduction, sustainability and resiliency. Also, we will explore how native populations in Alaska have developed in a participatory way the environmental justice indicators that serve as a base to their efforts to defend their Rights. Finally, the course will offer an inside look at the climate policy agenda and process in the US Congress, providing a clear picture to opportunities for advocacy.
