Professor Efr\u00e9n Rivera Ramos elaborates an analysis on the historical background and the main challenges to be faced in order to achieve the greatest possible access to justice in Puerto Rican society. The Professor reiterates that access to justice is not limited to access to the courts and that the roots of the problem of access to justice need to be addressed. Moreover, he argues that access to justice is a core fundamental right and a central concept in the broader field of justice. Some of his proposals are: that the population should continue to educate themselves about their rights and that legal representation should be more efficient in responding to the needs of the population. In addition, innovation in legislation is necessary to strengthen respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.<\/p>\n
