Su escrito dispone que las pol\u00edticas de <em>cero tolerancia <\/em>en las escuelas, las cuales tienen ra\u00edces en la teor\u00eda de <em>ventanas rotas<\/em> y en pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas como <em>Guerra contra las drogas <\/em>y <em>Mano dura contra el crimen<\/em>, criminalizan especialmente a ni\u00f1as negras. Adem\u00e1s, presenta que estas pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas crean lo que le llaman <em>el canal de la escuela a la c\u00e1rcel<\/em> porque conducen a las estudiantes al sistema de justicia criminal y las alejan del sistema de educaci\u00f3n. Argumenta tambi\u00e9n que ellas son especialmente v\u00edctimas de estos m\u00e9todos punitivos porque existe la percepci\u00f3n que tienen actitudes fuertes y desafiantes. Pero, la realidad es que muchas veces simplemente se est\u00e1n defendiendo del ambiente hostil en el cual viven. Finalmente, la autora recomienda pasos afirmativos y positivos que investigadores y educadores pueden tomar para detener y revertir esta situaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Author Valeria Pelet del Toro, Harvard College graduate and Yale Law School student, writes about the alarming situation that black girls experience in public schools across the United States. Her article exposes that <em>zero tolerance<\/em> policies in schools \u2014which developed from <em>Broken Windows<\/em> theory, <em>War Against Drugs<\/em> and <em>Iron Fist Against Crime <\/em>policies\u2014 criminalize black girls. She presents that this public policy creates the <em>school-to-prison pipeline<\/em> as it leads students to the criminal justice system and distance girls from the education system. Moreover, black girls are especially victimized when speaking up because of the perception that their strong attitudes do not comply with school norms. But girls that behave this particular way do it as a defense mechanism to hostile environments, not because they have a desire to abandon school. Lastly, the author recommends affirmative and positive steps researchers and instructors may take to stop and reverse this situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cita:\u00a0<\/strong>Valeria M.
