Building Resiliency with Reconstruction Funds How to propose projects to “build back better”

How might we rebuild Puerto Rico better than what it was before Hurricanes Irma and María in 2017? Disaster recovery literature shares many different approaches to building back better. Yet to date it is unclear which is the best pathway for Puerto Rico. This course focuses on examining pragmatic mechanisms to develop the island’s overall resilience to acute shocks and chronic stresses. These include current and prospective hazard mitigation climate adaptation opportunities. Further, the course analyzes resilience through the lens of social justice, promoting the preservation and sustainability of Puerto Rico’s social, cultural and environmental assets
